Individuals or companies wanting to perform work related to exterior sanitary sewer or water lines in Coralville within a given calendar year must obtain an Excavator License.
To apply for or renew an excavator license:
- A copy of your insurance for the calendar year the work is occurring must be on file with the Community Development Department. The insurance certificate must indicate the applicant carries liability and completed products insurance in the amounts of $100,000 per occurrence and $300,000 total. (Coralville Municipal Code Section 126.04)
- A bond in the amount of $1,000 must be on file with the Community Development Department. (Coralville Municipal Code Section 126.04)
- The annual license fee is $50. Complete the Excavator License Application (PDF) and return it, with a check payable to the City of Coralville.

Your license becomes valid when your insurance, bond, and fee payment are received.
Licenses are valid through December 31st. They expire annually at the end of the calendar year and the license fee is not pro-rated.
If you are renewing a license, you are encouraged to do so by January 1st of that year.
A wallet card will be sent within 7 days of receipt of all required documentation.

All work is subject to the necessary excavation permits and approval by the City of Coralville.
