1. Can I set out electronics or appliances during Mayor's Clean Up Week?

No, you cannot throw out appliances or electronics during Mayor's Clean Up Week. They will not be picked up and do not belong in your trash. 

Non-working appliances or electronics are picked up by appointment to be properly recycled. Schedule an appointment.  Working electronics or appliances can be donated or reused.

2. How many things can I set out during Mayor's Clean Up Week?

Due to space, we can not pick up large quantities of bulky items from each household. Mayor's Clean Up Week is a free pickup service for a large item that belongs in the trash, but not a roomful of items. 

Please do not throw away usable items. If you want to get rid of something and someone else could use it, please donate or reuse it -- do not send it to the landfill.

3. Can I throw away a lot of cardboard during Mayor's Clean Up Week?

Corrugated cardboard is banned from the landfill and must be flattened and recycled. Because high volumes of garbage are collected during Mayor's Clean Up Week, please take cardboard to the Coralville Recycling Center (212 1st Street) or any drop-off location in Johnson County

4. Where can I donate things I don't want?

We're glad you asked! Always donate or reuse (or even sell) items that are still usable. See our list of places to donate items toward the bottom of the page. There are also local social media groups where you can donate or sell items.

Coralville also hosts a Recycle Swap Day each spring where Coralville residents can donate clean, working items that anyone can pick up for free, and a city-wide garage sale.

Mayor's Clean Up Week and Cart à la Carte are only for items that need to be thrown away and cannot be reused. Do not throw out things that someone else could use.
